Fibromyalgia syndrome is basically a condition wherein a person experiences widespread pain in the whole body and the energy level reduces. In this condition, the patient feels pain in the ligaments and tendons as they are fibrous and soft tissues of the body.
The nervous system finds it difficult to process the pain and thus the pain magnifies and spread in whole body. People who suffer from this syndrome say that they feel a pull in their muscles and often feel cramps and twitches along with joint pain. Some of the symptoms of this chronic fatigue syndrome are similar to those of the viral flu.
Some of the common fibromyalgia symptoms are chronic pain, fatigue, loss of concentration, sleeping disorders and irritable bowel syndrome. The pain has no bounds and there is excessive stabbing, shooting, throbbing and burning sensation in the muscles.
Fatigue is also another symptom that creates problems for the patients. Energy loss is common and the patient may feel that their energy has been drained out. The patient may also face difficulty in concentrating and retaining new information in his mind. The pain also gives rise to sleeping disorders. Due to the pain, the patient is not able to get a good night’s sleep and wakes up at different intervals.
The patients are advised to do exercise on a regular basis. If they do not do so they will find it hard to do the daily tasks as well. The exercise you do has to be of moderate intensity so that the pain does not aggravate. Do exercise for five minutes at a time and have appropriate intervals while exercising.
The condition of the patient is just like that of a person suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis. Other symptoms include irritable bowel syndrome that leads to diarrhea and bloating and pain in the abdominal area along with constipation. Headache and jaw pains are also seen in a number of people.
The fibromyalgia treatment will depend on the variation of the disease. There are a number of treatments that can be given but you will have to experiment a bit to know which one suits you the best. For pain relief, prescription drugs can be given. There are other methods to treat this syndrome like massages and physical therapies, acupuncture and chiropractic.
Vitamins and supplements have to be included in the diet. Also pay attention to a regular exercise routine so that the body does not experience much pain. You will have to make some changes in your lifestyle like diet, pacing and stress management.
The cases of arthritis and fibromyalgia can be different in each person and thus the treatment too would vary. It is not necessary that every treatment will work for everyone. The doctor will have to work closely with you in order to know what suits your body and suggest a custom treatment plan that keeps you active.
The doctor may also ask you to try on a multidisciplinary approach. Make sure you come to know of the disease at the right time and get it treated at the right time so that you do not have to face problems in the future.
