Cold sores are another condition which can be healed by aloe vera.

They are also known as fever blisters, or in formal medical language as recurrent herpes labialis.

This common complaint creates painful, unsightly mouth sores, caused by an outbreak of the herpes simplex virus (HSV).

These facial lesions - or blisters - occur on the lip or both lips, or on the skin around the mouth area.

This skin problem tend to happen at times when the immune system is lowered or run down - such as when you catch a cold.

The condition involves a type of the herpes virus, but this is rarely the same virus strand that causes genital herpes.

The body's defences can be weakened by a severe cold. This leaves you open to the virus being re-activated, and hence the return of blisters.

This can also be caused by things like sunlight, or stress.

Sometimes the virus can expand until the sores are completely covered by scabs. Avoid picking at these, as this can spread the virus to other parts of the body or cause bacterial infection.

Cold sores may happen just once in a person's life, or keep returning. They are different from canker sores, which appear inside the mouth.

Before a it fully appears, you may feel a tingling, itching or burning sensation under the skin's surface - usually around the mouth, or base of the nose. This first sign of a cold sore is called the prodrome stage.

Herpes and cold sores are generally contracted via contact with an infected area of skin.

For example, somebody with this skin problem on their lip, can pass the virus to another person's body through kissing.

Most victims contract it before the age of seven, so it is common not to remember your first outbreak.

Indeed, the first infection may be so mild that the victim doesn't even notice it. However, in other cases, the first outbreak causes visible sores.

Other remedies for skin disorder may be available, but why not stick to good old aloe vera?

Aloe vera can be used as a cream, or taken in the form of balms or juice. These each make an effective treatment for this skin problem.

With its analgesic action, aloe vera stops the pain. Then it kills any bacteria present, penetrates the skin, stimulates increased blood flow to the area, promotes blood clotting, reduces inflammation, stimulates the growth of new tissue, and breaks down and digests dead tissue to promote healing.

This seems impressive enough - but, in performing so many functions at once, this multi-talented plant uses merely a small fraction of its total capabilities.

Aloe vera's multiple effects have inspired a description of the plant as "a symphony orchestra, not a solo performer".

It leaves no bad taste or sting when applied, which makes it an even more attractive way to cure cold sores. Medical tests have proved that aloe vera as an effective remedy for this problem.
